Wow, this case has always puzzled me! Has anyone dug deeper into the communication equipment on the Betty B? I find it odd that there wasn't any clear radio contact or distress signal sent out, especially given the dangerous conditions around Sand Point. It makes me wonder if everything was in working order or if there might have been some kind of equipment failure. If anyone knows more about the safety protocols or how they handled emergencies on board back then, I’d love to hear about it. It seems like such a critical piece of the puzzle!

Does anyone have more details about Thor's experience with boats prior to this incident? I'm curious if he was familiar with the waters around Umnak Island or if anyone knows about any previous voyages he might have taken. It just seems odd to me that he tried to swim to the rescue boat. Was it a panic situation, or could it have been a last-ditch effort because he didn't think help was coming? Sharing any info could really help piece together what Thor might have been thinking or experiencing at that moment. Thanks!

I was reading up on Thor's case and something just doesn't sit right with me about the timeline. I get that conditions can change rapidly out at sea, but I wonder why there hasn't been more focus on the state of the weather that day. Did the coast guard reports indicate any sudden changes? Maybe that could have played a part in the decision to abandon ship and swim. Anyone else come across any detailed weather logs for that area around 03/05/1991? It might seem like a small piece of the puzzle, but sometimes those little details can make a big difference in understanding what happened.
