I'm so saddened by what happened to Tykwan Crenshaw. It’s unbelievably unfair that someone so young and with so much ahead of him was taken away in such a senseless act of violence. I was especially struck by the fact that this happened in a place like the Royal Chicken Restaurant—somewhere that should have been safe, where Tykwan and others were just trying to go about their day.
What’s really bothering me is the role Leon Trent played in all this. Acting as a lookout seems just as devastating to me, even if he didn't pull the trigger. His actions facilitated the crime and it's difficult to comprehend how someone decides to become an accomplice in such a horrible act. His 10-year sentence seems so minimal in the grand scheme of what was lost that day.
My heart goes out to Tykwan’s family and friends. No sentence will bring him back, but I hope they find some peace in knowing those responsible are being held accountable. And let’s hope that Newark can find more effective ways to curb this violence so that another family doesn’t have to endure the same pain.
Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about Leon Trent's role in Tykwan Crenshaw's case. It's unsettling to realize how someone could get involved in such an unspeakable act, even as a lookout. It makes me wonder what went through his mind that day and how he justifies his choices. Being sentenced to 10 years seems significant, but I can't help worrying about how these decisions impact a person long-term, not to mention the devastating effect on Crenshaw's loved ones.
I guess it's a reminder of how important it is to reach out to young people in our communities and try to steer them away from involvement in such tragic pathways. Wishing peace to Tykwan's family and friends during these difficult times. ❤️
