Hey everyone,
I've been following the discussion about Roy's disappearance, and something that stood out to me is the weather conditions the day he went missing. Apparently, there was a sudden change in the wind and tide around Gambell, which might have played a significant role in the skiff capsizing. Locals have mentioned that the surf can become unpredictable and dangerous really quickly, especially for smaller vessels like the one Roy was in. It's a reminder of just how harsh and unforgiving these waters can be. Does anyone have more insight on how often this happens in that area or know if there have been similar incidents in the past? It’s such a scary situation.
Has anyone else been digging into the currents in the area where Roy's skiff capsized? I was looking at some sea maps, and it seems like the currents around Gambell and Cape Navareen can be quite unpredictable, especially with the heavy surf they were experiencing when this happened. I can’t help but wonder if the search efforts might be affected by these shifting currents, possibly moving debris or anything related further away from the initial capsizing site. Does anyone here have experience with how these waters behave, and could it impact where we should be looking?
