Hey everyone,
I’ve been following the case of Alejandro Gonzalez-Santos, and my heart goes out to his family and friends. I can’t stop thinking about how Alejandro’s life was cut short in such awful circumstances. One part of this case that really gets to me is how Contreras-Jimenez was released on an ankle monitor and allowed to graduate with his class. I’m all for giving young people second chances, but the decision to let him walk with his classmates seems baffling given the charges.
Can anyone shed light on how these decisions are made in the juvenile justice system? It seems so complicated, especially with him being charged as an adult later. How often are decisions like this made, and what factors do they consider? It’s just hard to understand how something like this happens.
Thinking of everyone who knew and loved Alejandro. Such a profound tragedy.
