I’ve been following Amir Hardison’s case, and it just breaks my heart to think about how his family and friends must be feeling with no answers all these years later. I want to talk about the increased homicide rate in Camden around the time of his death. It’s alarming that in February 2018 alone, there were three homicides, including Amir’s. It's a stark contrast to the previous year, where there was only one death from a police-involved shooting during the same period. What’s going on in Camden that could have led to such an increase? It seems like a troubling trend, and I can only imagine how this escalation in violence affects the community’s sense of safety. I wonder if this rise in violence had any impact on the resources or strategies that the police and the prosecutor's office employed back then. Did they increase patrols or change how they engage with the community? If anyone has any insights or lived experience from that time in Camden, I would appreciate it. My thoughts are with Amir’s loved ones, hoping they get the justice and closure they deserve soon.
