Reading through the details of the Dearborn post office shooting just leaves me feeling so unsettled. I can’t stop thinking about how Gary Montes's family must feel, knowing that he was just going about his normal workday and then this horrific event unfolded. It's such an awful reminder of how important it is to take workplace dynamics and grievances seriously. From what I've read, folks had concerns about Jasion, but nothing was done until it was too late. Maybe if those concerns had been acted upon differently, Gary and his colleagues wouldn’t have been in harm’s way. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy, especially those who have to live with this loss every day. Does anyone know if there were changes in the protocol following this incident? It’d be a small comfort to know some good came from such a terrible event.
Has anyone else thought about the fact that this tragedy might have been prevented if more attention had been paid to workplace dynamics before they escalated to this point? I can’t stop thinking about Sandra Brandstatter's concerns—she spoke up, but it seems like her fears were not taken seriously enough. It’s so awful to think that people had some inkling something might happen but couldn’t prevent it. I can't imagine the guilt she and others might carry over this. It's like a lesson that went unlearned until it was too late. Has there been any change in how threats are assessed since then? It just breaks my heart for Gary Montes and his family that it took such a tragic loss for these questions to be asked. ?
