Just read about Jack going overboard from the F/V "Platonida" and can't stop wondering why he wasn't wearing a life jacket. I know those guys often have to move fast and might think it'll slow them down, but with high winds and rough seas, it seems like such a risky move. I'm not trying to blame anyone—just genuinely curious about how common this is among crab fishermen. Do they routinely skip life jackets during certain tasks? Maybe others with experience in the industry can shed some light on this.

Has anyone here heard any updates about the safety protocols on the F/V "Platonida" since Jack's disappearance? The conditions that day sounded treacherous with the high winds and waves. I’m wondering if there have been any changes in policy regarding life jackets or how they manage emergencies on deck now. It seems like such a crucial part of fishing in those environments, and sadly, it's not the first time we've heard about such incidents. I can't help but think that if Jack had been wearing a life jacket, it might have been a different story. Hoping the authorities are taking this seriously and implementing changes to prevent something similar from happening again. Thoughts?

I was reading more about Jack's case, and it's just baffling how quickly a normal day can turn perilous out at sea. It's such a harsh reminder of how unpredictable nature can be and the risks these fishermen take daily. I know Jack wasn’t wearing a life jacket, which seems like an obvious safeguard, yet I wonder how practical it is to expect fishermen to be in them constantly while working on deck with all the ropes and equipment. Does anyone here have insights from commercial fishing experiences? Is the lack of life jacket more common than we'd think, and are there any regulations that might change because of it? My thoughts are with Jack's family and crew.
