I’ve been following Aundrea Garland’s case closely, and I can’t stop thinking about the impact her loss has had on the Kentwood Alternative High School community. To think she was so close to starting her senior year is incredibly saddening. Her friends and teachers must have really been looking forward to seeing her succeed. From what I’ve read, schools often act as second homes for young people, and losing a classmate like Aundrea must have left a huge void. I wonder how the school and her fellow students have been coping in the aftermath. There seems to be a real push from both the community and local activists to create safer environments for young people, which is encouraging to see. If anyone has more information about how her school community has been doing or any initiatives they’ve started in Aundrea’s memory, I’d love to hear about it. It's clear that efforts like these are crucial in reminding us all how important it is to keep our neighborhoods safe and cherish every young life.
