I can't stop thinking about Willie's family and friends and what they must be going through. It's just so upsetting to see someone lose their life to violence. I read that he was just at the party store when an argument turned fatal. It makes you wonder what could’ve been so critical to escalate to such a tragic point. I'm glad the person responsible was caught, but it doesn't bring Willie back. It's scary to think this is the fifth homicide in Lansing that year. Feels like so much work needs to be done to address violence in our communities and prevent stories like Willie's from happening again. What is everyone else thinking about this case and what's happening in Lansing?

I attended the sentencing hearing for Billy Castle Wilder. Sitting there, surrounded by the friends and family of Willie Calvin Williamson, was such a moving experience. The raw pain and loss they felt was palpable. It reminded me how one moment of violence can ripple through so many lives. Wilder's claim of self-defense just didn't hold up, and it's comforting to see the justice system work in Willie’s favor, though it’s a bittersweet victory. I truly hope that Williamson’s family finds some peace in knowing that the community stands with them and that Wilder will be held accountable. It’s crucial to keep discussing ways to reduce violence in Lansing; our community can’t afford to lose more lives this way.
