I've been following Deviontae Banks' case, and my thoughts are with his family and friends who must be going through unimaginable pain. I was especially struck by how quickly this all unfolded, from the tragic shooting to the capture of Anthony Ontiveroz. It’s terrifying to think something so horrible can happen in broad daylight while Deviontae was simply going about his day, just after doing a good deed for a friend. The location near North Mason and Throop must be a painful reminder for the community, a place that’s now associated with loss and violence. How does a community heal from such a tragedy? It makes me hope that his story will inspire some positive change, that maybe it can bring people together to make the area safer so Deviontae's memory is honored in a meaningful way.
