Hey everyone, I know there's been a lot discussed about the systemic issues surrounding Gamaliel "Gama" Toscano's tragic death, but I've been thinking about the unlit and isolated areas students have to navigate every day to and from school. Has anyone else wondered about the lack of lighting and safe passage routes in neighborhoods like Back of the Yards? It's incredibly concerning that students are left vulnerable during their daily commutes, exposing them to potential dangers like what happened with Gama. Imagine being just a few blocks from school, thinking about homework or what you'll have for dinner, and then something so senseless shatters everything. So many young lives have been lost, and families forever changed. I can't help but wonder if better lighting, increased community patrols, or organized walking groups could make a crucial difference. It feels like not enough attention has been paid to the immediate environments these kids have to maneuver daily. I really hope we can push for tangible changes that make these journeys safer because every kid deserves to get home safe. Thoughts? Ideas on what could be done to implement these changes would be appreciated! Stay safe, everyone.
