Hey everyone,
I just wanted to talk about that mural of Michael Smith that's been going up near the park in Flint. It seems like such a beautiful tribute to him and really shows how much he meant to the community. I didn’t know Michael personally, but from everything I've read, he was an amazing guy who gave so much love to his family and friends. It's so tragic that someone so cherished was taken from them in such a senseless way.
I thought it was particularly touching how the mural highlights his passion for chess and even incorporates some pieces, like pawns and a king, into the design. It’s a brilliant reminder of how he loved mentoring his kids and grandkids. I think these kinds of tributes are important, not just for remembering a person like Michael, but also for pushing the community to seek justice and create change.
Have any of you seen it? Would love to hear your thoughts. Let's keep supporting his family and keep his memory alive as we hope for some real progress in the investigation.

Has anyone else heard about the chess club Michael Smith had started for local kids? It breaks my heart to think that someone who dedicated so much of his time to mentoring young minds and connecting with his community was taken from us in such a senseless way. I came across an old article that mentioned how much the kids adored him and learned from him—not just about chess but about life. It's chilling to think that a man who was trying to build a positive environment for future generations became a victim of the very violence he was trying to fight against by setting a good example. I really hope the investigation makes some headway soon. The community and his family deserve answers and justice, and it’s hard to see such a kind soul gone without the closure they need. If anyone has updates or remembers anything from the neighborhood that might help, now is the time to share. Let's hold onto this memory of him and help find the answers his family desperately needs.
