Has anyone else been thinking about the impact of Naomi Skinner’s murder on the local community in Highland Park? It's unsettling to think about the environment that allowed such an incident to occur. From what I've read, it's apparent that there's a continuous battle against violence targeting transgender individuals, especially those who are Black. It must be absolutely devastating for her loved ones to reconcile the loss of someone who was described as having such a "fabulous life." Naomi was only 25, and it's tragic that her life was cut short so violently.
The community around 2nd Avenue must be shaken by this entire ordeal. I can't imagine how it feels to live in an area where something so tragic has happened. It's a wake-up call for more protective measures and awareness efforts. It's heartbreaking to see a place that should have been a safe space for Naomi turn into the site of her murder. Thinking of everyone involved and hoping for better days and stronger support systems for vulnerable communities.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the sentencing in Naomi Skinner’s case and I can’t help but feel like justice wasn’t fully served. Ten to twenty years for the life he took seems so inadequate. Naomi was just 25, and she should have had so many more years ahead of her to live her fabulous life. It’s deeply unsettling that the Tampering with Evidence charge was dropped in the plea deal; dragging her body into the hallway felt so callous. It makes me wonder how these plea deals are made and if enough consideration is given to the victim’s family and the broader impact on the community. My heart goes out to Naomi's loved ones and all those who continue to fight for the safety and rights of transgender individuals.
