I can't stop thinking about how Dede Ricks was a part of a community that's often overlooked and misunderstood. The tragic news of her death really highlights how much we still need to do to protect and support our transgender friends and neighbors. What's been keeping me up at night is how many of Dede's loved ones must be dealing with fear and anger right now. Losing someone in such a senseless manner is difficult to bear, and it must be heartbreaking for those close to her. I'm hoping that people in positions of power really listen and take these calls for justice and equality seriously. No one should have to live in fear simply because of who they are. Sending all my love to Dede’s family and friends. Let's continue to push for the changes needed to prevent tragedies like this.
