I’ve been thinking a lot about the 300 block of Pascagoula Street being renamed Detective Eric T. Smith Drive. It feels like such a fitting tribute, yet it’s so poignant walking down that street. Detective Smith wasn’t just a name or a badge; he was a person who dedicated his life to others. Each time someone sees that street sign, I hope they remember the sacrifice he made and the kind of officer he was. It’s moments like these that remind us of the true cost our officers sometimes pay in the line of duty. My heart goes out to his family and colleagues who are surely still feeling his absence every day. It's wonderful that his legacy will continue to live on through the community he served so wholeheartedly. ?
