I'm really drawn to the aspect of James representing himself during the trial. It's hard to imagine the emotions running through the courtroom as Suzanne Hogan's family had to hear him defend his actions. Representing oneself is a huge decision and seems so rare in such serious cases. Can you imagine the emotional toll it must have taken on Suzanne's loved ones to see him face the jury without a defense attorney, claiming mental illness? And yet, the jury found him sane. It speaks volumes about how the court saw through his defense. My heart goes out to Suzanne’s family; enduring the trial must have been incredibly painful. Her life was taken so senselessly, and the strength her family has shown through all of this is truly admirable. I hope they find some measure of peace in the sentencing, even though nothing can truly make up for their loss.
