I keep thinking about the impact of Briddell Barber being released on bond after the 2016 murder charge. It's baffling to me that someone with such a serious accusation against them could be out on the streets. The horror that unfolded at L & L Lounge could possibly have been prevented if the justice system hadn't failed in the first place. My heart aches for the families of Edward and Kevin Johnson, knowing they have to grapple with the knowledge that their loved ones’ lives might have been spared. Edward seemed like such a dedicated person, sticking with the same job for over two decades—a rare thing these days. The justice system should protect people like him, not put them at risk. And Kevin sounded like someone who enjoyed the comfort of home but got caught up in such a tragic situation. I'm just hopeful that with Barber now sentenced to life in prison, other families are spared from similar heartache. My thoughts are with those who knew and loved Edward, Kevin, Jerranden, and Gabriel.
