I've been following the Huebner case, and I still can't wrap my head around the idea of Ellen possibly using battered women syndrome as a defense. While it's understandable that such circumstances can drastically affect someone's mental state, it's just so hard to reconcile that with the calculated nature of Steven's death and the aftermath. I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to personal struggles and mental health, but this case just seems to defy simple explanations. I'm really feeling for Steven’s family — having to sit through the trial and hear everything must've been unimaginably tough for them. What do you all think about the role mental health evaluations play in cases like this? Does anyone have more insight or opinions on how these are typically handled?
