I just found myself thinking about Myrick Diggles today, and how his story is such a painful reflection of what so many young people in Chicago faced back in 2010. Myrick was just 19 when he lost his life, and it’s hard not to feel for his family and friends who had to endure such a devastating loss. I wonder about the full impact these tragedies have on communities, not just in terms of immediate grief, but the long-term effects on neighbors, schools, and local efforts to create safe environments. It’s like each incident sends ripples through the community, and the pain and fear can be paralyzing.
I’ve read that 2010 was especially rough because of the mix of issues like gang violence and economic hardship, and it's pretty clear that the systems in place just weren’t equipped to handle it all effectively. I’m curious if anyone here has personal experiences or insights into what sorts of community programs have actually made a difference over the years? Especially interested in those on the ground making a change despite all the challenges. We can’t change the past, but maybe we can learn from it.
