Hey everyone, I've been thinking about the personal toll this incident took on Trooper Smith's family, especially since he spent almost seven years in a nursing facility after the shooting. It must have been incredibly challenging for his loved ones to see him go from a dedicated trooper to someone needing constant care. I can't even begin to imagine the emotional rollercoaster his family went through—first, nearly losing him in 1999 and then finally losing him in 2006. It's tough enough losing a loved one, but having them suffer for so long must have been another level of pain. I hope his family found some peace knowing that his bravery saved others and that his sacrifice is remembered by so many. Just sending out some thoughts and support to those who knew and loved him; I'm sure they could still use it, even all these years later. ?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the courage it must have taken for Trooper Steven Smith to respond to that call at the cemetery back in 1999. It’s tough knowing how his life took such a turn after that day—shot in the line of duty and left fighting for the rest of his life with such devastating injuries. It’s a reminder of the risks every officer faces daily. From what I’ve read, he was deeply respected among his peers and the community. It’s comforting to see how people came together to support him and his family through those challenging years. But I can't help but wonder about the emotional toll it must have taken on his loved ones and the officers who were there that day. There’s a side to these stories we often don’t hear enough about—the strength and perseverance of those left behind. ?

I’ve been reading about Trooper Smith, and I can’t help but feel such admiration for his bravery that day. It’s incredible to think about the courage it must have taken for him and the Delaware County sheriff to try and subdue an armed suspect to protect others despite the danger. It makes me reflect on how quickly things can escalate and change lives forever. My thoughts are with Trooper Smith’s family and colleagues; the community clearly felt his loss deeply. I think it’s important to remember his courage and service - he truly embodied the spirit of a protector. Does anyone know if there have been any memorials or dedications in his honor recently? It seems like such a meaningful way for the community to keep his memory and bravery alive.
