I’ve been reflecting a lot on the community response to George and Kay Sue Smith’s decision. It seems like their choice has prompted a wider discussion about elderly health care and end-of-life options in our town. While everyone is respecting the Smiths' privacy and their family's perspective, I’ve noticed more people talking about how we can better support our elderly population to address both their physical and mental health needs. It’s so important to have these conversations, even if they are difficult. I genuinely hope that their story leads to increased awareness and more resources for those who feel they have nowhere else to turn.
