I’ve been reading more about the tragic case of Jeremy Jason Colanto, and it really hit me how impactful these acts of violence are on the communities where they happen. I live not too far from Rogers Park, and it’s unsettling to think about the fear and anxiety residents must feel when something like this hits so close to home.
It’s really sobering to consider how a single drive-by shooting not only takes a life but sends ripples through an entire neighborhood. Community events and daily life get overshadowed by the constant worry of when or where it might happen again. I hope we continue to support efforts that address the root causes of violence while keeping the memories of victims like Jeremy alive. It's a painful reminder of how much work still needs to be done to create safer environments for everyone in Chicago.
Hey everyone,
I’ve been reading through the threads about Jeremy Colanto, and I can’t help but think about the ripple effects a tragedy like this has on the community. Rogers Park, like so many other neighborhoods in Chicago, seems to be constantly dealing with the fear and grief that this kind of violence brings.
I feel for Jeremy’s friends and family, who have to carry this with them. It’s more than just a statistic — it’s a person, a life that was ended too soon. The whole neighborhood must feel a lingering sense of vulnerability and anxiety.
I wonder what more can be done at a community level to foster healing and resilience. It’s tough when you feel like things are out of control, but maybe there’s a way for people to come together, support each other, and reclaim a sense of safety. Sending all my thoughts to those mourning Jeremy and hoping for better days in Rogers Park and across Chicago.
