I’ve been following Ariana Gibson’s case, and something that’s been on my mind is the impact this has had on the local schools and the kids who went to school with Ariana or lived nearby. Can you imagine how confusing and scary this must be for them? I read somewhere that nearby schools started having more counselors and meetings to help kids process what happened, but is it enough? These kids are growing up in an environment where violence feels just around the corner. It’s not just Ariana’s family who’s hurting—there’s a whole community of children who are carrying this trauma. Sometimes, I wonder what more could be done to support these kids, not just with counseling but with programs that offer them safe outlets and opportunities to heal and grow. Has there been any update on progress with community intervention programs in Englewood since 2011? I really hope Ariana’s story inspires more action to protect all kids in similar situations. It's just hard to wrap your head around such a loss, knowing how it ripples through so many lives.
