I've been closely following the case of Quadir Black, and my thoughts are constantly with his loved ones. One detail that's been gnawing at me is the location of the shooting. 25th and Medford is known to be a challenging area, and I can't help but wonder how much the environment itself played into what happened. Spaces like these often don't get enough attention in conversations about prevention; it's heartbreaking to think how many lives might be different if more resources were allocated to improving these neighborhoods. From better lighting to community programs, there are countless ways that area could potentially have been made safer. I completely empathize with Quadir's family. It's hard enough to lose someone, but even harder when you can see how a safer community might have changed the course of events. Let's hope this tragedy sparks some much-needed change in the area.
