Hey everyone, I’ve been following the Nicholas Day case and something that really sticks with me is how none of the people involved seemed connected. Riley Berg and Nick didn’t even know each other. It’s terrifying to think about how random and senseless this crime was. It makes me wonder if there were any signs or precursors that were missed with Berg? Given his history with mental health struggles and schizophrenia, it begs the question of what kind of support systems were in place for him, if any? Nick's life was full of promise—a dedicated Navy vet and a father to a little girl who now has to grow up without him. It’s incomprehensible. It feels like a crucial part of preventing future tragedies might lie in addressing these gaps in mental health care. My thoughts continue to be with Nick's family and friends through all of this. It must be incredibly hard trying to rebuild after such a shocking loss. ❤️

I'm thinking a lot about the role mental health played in this tragic case. It's so troubling that Riley Berg had a history of schizophrenia and yet ended up committing such a violent crime. It makes you wonder about the intersection of mental health and public safety. How do we as a society make sure individuals with severe mental illness get the support and treatment they desperately need before things escalate to such a horrific point? I know this issue doesn’t bring Nick Day back or ease the pain for his family and friends, but it's something that really needs addressing. I'm hoping that this case brings more awareness and prompts action to prevent anything similar from happening in the future. Thoughts are with Nick’s loved ones during this tough time.
