Hey everyone, I’ve been following Hermann Samitsch's disappearance since it happened and something’s been on my mind recently. Has anyone looked into the weather conditions around Boot Key Harbor during early December 2017? I know the engine and nav equipment on his boat were sketchy, to say the least, so I’m wondering if poor weather could have contributed to his disappearance. Sailors in the area, what was it like back then? Did he encounter unexpected storms that could have pushed him off course or caused bigger issues with the already faulty engine? I’m thinking if we can piece together the weather patterns, it might give us more clues. Any insights would be appreciated!

Hey everyone, I’ve been following the Hermann Samitsch case and something that's been on my mind is the condition of his boat. I mean, setting off on a 39-foot sailboat with a malfunctioning engine and barely any navigation gear sounds really risky, especially for such a long journey. It makes you wonder if he had any plans to stop along the way for repairs or if he was just hoping to navigate by sight. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem like he told anyone about making stops, but could there be a chance we’re missing some interaction he might have had at a port somewhere? Maybe someone out there saw him or spoke with him but didn’t realize it was important at the time. Anyone have ideas on how those leads could be pursued, or if they even were? It feels like every little detail might be crucial with such a perplexing case.

Anyone familiar with sailing know how reliable a 1972 Pearson sailboat would be for a journey like the one Hermann Samitsch attempted? Especially considering the engine issues and minimal navigation equipment he had onboard. I'm trying to wrap my head around whether this kind of trip was even feasible or if it was almost doomed from the start. It seems like a big risk, but maybe someone with more nautical experience can shed some light on what challenges he might have faced. Hoping for any insights!
