I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the tragedy that struck Sebastian Perez-Alvarez and the other victims at that 40th Place home in Kenosha. What hits me hard is imagining how Sebastian's friends and family are coping right now. He was just a teenager, on the brink of adulthood, with so much promise and potential. The fact that he, along with Marian, lost his life so violently and suddenly is truly awful. I can’t help but think about how no follow-up seemed to happen after the initial domestic disturbance call the previous December. It’s frustrating and tragic to think that maybe, just maybe, if action had been taken earlier, this might have been prevented. It really emphasizes the importance of taking domestic disputes seriously and following up on them. My thoughts are with all the families and friends grieving this immeasurable loss in such a tightly-knit community.
