I was reading through the details of Percy Smith's case, and I can't stop thinking about the role that community witness statements might have played. It must have been incredibly tough for those who were nearby to not only hear or see the incident but then come forward and speak with investigators. Witnesses mentioned hearing McKinney talk about "stankin" someone, and I imagine it's not easy to relay that kind of information to law enforcement. Their input seems so crucial in piecing together what happened, and I hope they know how much they could be helping to bring some justice to Percy's family. Just another reminder of how gun violence impacts more than just those directly involved; it touches the whole community.
