Hey everyone,
I’ve been following the discussions around Corey L. Hodges’ tragic death, and I just can’t stop thinking about how many layers there are to this case beyond just the numbers. Corey's story is sadly becoming too familiar in Milwaukee, and it hits home for those of us living here. What really struck me is how his family has been impacted not just once, but twice by gun violence. To have Marquis, Corey's cousin, also lost to a similar fate back in 2016 is unimaginable. It's like there's no room for healing before the next wound is opened.
It makes me wonder about the emotional resilience needed to face such loss repeatedly. It's a weight no family should bear. I truly hope that the community rallies around them and provides the support they need. These stories bring such a personal perspective to the need for change in our city—it’s not just statistics, it’s real families and real heartbreak. I also think about how these tragedies highlight other issues in our community, like access to mental health support, which feels crucial in preventing these cycles of violence.
Sending love to Corey’s family and friends during this difficult time. I hope we continue to keep the pressure on for real change so that we don’t see more families going through this. It’s past time for action.
