Does anyone have more information on the aftermath of Chief Wannenwetsch's murder? I've been trying to dig into old records and newspaper archives about how the local community reacted and if there were any significant changes in the police department following his tragic death. It's so sad to think of his wife losing him under such sudden and violent circumstances. The pain must have been immense for her. It seems there’s so much missing from the official reports, especially with no clear resolution on whether the suspects were caught. If anyone has family stories or community anecdotes passed down, it would be great to piece together more of what happened afterward, both for closure and remembrance.

Does anyone else find it odd that there’s so little information on the suspects who fled to Spokane after Chief Wannenwetsch was killed? I’ve been going down this rabbit hole, and it strikes me as strange that there isn’t more detail available about any ensuing investigation from back then. Was there a lapse in communication between Colville and Spokane, or perhaps limited resources for cross-city searches at the time? Given the era, I suppose it's not entirely surprising, but it's frustrating that justice wasn’t served for Chief Wannenwetsch and his family. Has anyone here come across any old newspaper clippings or historical archives that might shed light on how the investigation (or lack thereof) unfolded after the suspects escaped? His sacrifice deserves more attention, and it’s heartbreaking to think these questions linger over a century later.

I recently stumbled across the case of Chief John M. Wannenwetsch, and it's been occupying my thoughts ever since. While it's been over a century since his tragic death, the mystery surrounding the suspects still baffles me. How is it that two burglars could shoot a police chief in the line of duty and seemingly vanish without a trace? The fact that they escaped to Spokane and no arrests or identities were ever confirmed just adds layers to an already confusing and unsettling event. I can't help but think about what his family, especially his wife, must have gone through back then. It feels strange that there’s so little follow-up information on such a significant incident. Was there any effort to pursue leads, or did the trail simply go cold? If anyone has more insights or has come across any new documents or stories about this case, I’d love to hear more. Keeping Chief Wannenwetsch in my thoughts today—his dedication and bravery should never be forgotten.
