I've been going through the details of the tragic loss of Deputy Martin S. Sowders, and there's something that really strikes me about the situation on that day. The fact that Larry William Edwards, the suspect involved, was an escaped convict and on parole at the time really complicates the whole incident. It makes you think about the system we have in place and the difficult situations officers can end up in because of it. Edwards had already been through the justice system and was known to be dangerous, which must've heightened the stress levels for all the officers trying to bring him in. It's incredibly sad that a routine stop escalated to such a tragic outcome. My heart goes out to Deputy Sowders' family, especially knowing that he bravely served his community for seven years. It's so important that we remember the risks officers like him take and the challenges they face out there every day. ? How do we even begin to better protect those who protect us?
