I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of mental health in cases like the Northlake Shipyard shooting. It’s really tragic how Peter Giles and Russell Brisendine lost their lives, and it makes me wonder how much of a difference early intervention and mental health support could have made for Kevin Cruz. The fact that he was suffering from chronic paranoid schizophrenia and was caught up in delusions is really troubling. Reading about the trial, I couldn't help but feel for the families involved, having to relive the trauma through testimonies and the defense's focus on mental illness. I know this is a tough topic, but does anyone else think the justice system should change how it handles cases involving severe mental illness? It’s such a complex issue, and I’m curious if any of you have thoughts on what could be done, perhaps within both the legal and healthcare systems, to prevent things like this from happening again. Sending love to those who are still healing from this tragedy.
