I've been thinking a lot about the Austin case and specifically the access Ethan had to the firearm. It's devastating to think how something meant to provide security for the family ended up causing unimaginable pain. Keeping guns locked away is crucial, but it also reminds us how important it is to regularly talk to our kids about emotions, conflict resolution, and the gravity of firearms. I can't even begin to imagine the pain Ethan and Kaitlin's parents are going through. It’s heart-wrenching when the pieces of a tragedy don't fit together, and I hope that ongoing conversations about mental health and gun safety might prevent a similar tragedy in the future. Sending love and support to the Austin family and community during this incredibly difficult time.
