Has anyone else here been pondering about the role of protection orders in tragic cases like Heather Kelso's? It's so gut-wrenching to think about how she felt the need to obtain one just a month before her murder. It makes you wonder about the effectiveness of these orders in preventing further violence, especially when the person being protected is in such grave danger. What else could have been done to ensure Heather's safety? Nobody should have to live in fear for their life. This case really highlights how the system still has so far to go when it comes to truly protecting those at risk. Thoughts and insights welcome.
I just wanted to share some thoughts about the brave actions of Jalisa Lum on that terrible night. It's incredibly moving and heartbreaking to think about Jalisa's instinct to protect her little boy, Kaden, the way any mother would. Even in a situation filled with unimaginable terror, she tried to shield him from harm. Jalisa surviving that night only to lose both her child and friend is a kind of pain that's hard to wrap your head around, and my heart truly goes out to her. I heard a piece at the trial that she still holds onto hope that DeJesus might find some redemption. That level of forgiveness is remarkable amid such sorrow. Just a stark reminder that sometimes the strength of a mother’s love is the bravest force we have. My thoughts are with both families as they continue to heal from this senseless tragedy.
