I was thinking about the family of Deputy Tom Stewart today and the weight they've had to carry over the years. It's unimaginable to lose a loved one under such violent circumstances. It's even more complex when the person responsible is repeatedly brought back into the justice system, as was the case with Bad Jack Asher. The constant cycle of crime and punishment adds another layer to their grief, I'm sure. What's particularly sad is how Asher's story didn't end with Deputy Stewart. He continued down that destructive path, impacting many more lives. It's clear he was a dangerous individual with little regard for law or order. Deputy Stewart's brother courageously stepped up during the later confrontation in 1913, showing incredible bravery in the face of ongoing threats from Asher and his gang. The resilience of the Stewart family and the community's continued remembrance of Tom Stewart's sacrifice is truly commendable. It’s a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those in law enforcement and the importance of supporting the families who pay the ultimate price.
