Has anyone here read about the tragic incident involving Deputy Sheriff Mack Roberts back in 1905? While we can't change the past, it’s important we remember and honor those who’ve dedicated their lives to keeping us safe. It’s so unsettling to think that a festive event like a turkey shoot could go so wrong, especially in a tight-knit community like Leslie County. It's a grim reminder that danger can arise unexpectedly, even from accidents. My thoughts go out to Deputy Roberts' family and the entire community that was affected by this sudden loss. They must have been devastated as this tragedy unfolded during what was meant to be a time of celebration. How do you think communities back then coped with such sorrow in the absence of modern support systems?
