I recently stumbled upon the case of Town Marshal A. H. Hamby, and I can't stop thinking about how much we owe to law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm's way every day. It's especially poignant to imagine it happening on Christmas Eve of all days, when most of us are with our loved ones celebrating. The bravery he showed, even after being fatally wounded, is just incredible. It’s so sad to think about his wife and five children having to navigate life without him, especially during what should have been a joyous time of the year. I hope his family found some way to heal over the years. The kind of courage Marshal Hamby displayed is inspiring, and it's tragic we lost someone who dedicated themselves to keeping their community safe.

I was reading about the tragic loss of Town Marshal A. H. Hamby in Saint-Charles, Kentucky back in 1910. What really struck me was the impact this must have had on his family, especially during that time of year. Losing a loved one on Christmas Eve is unimaginable. ? I've been thinking about the children he left behind—five of them. It's hard to even fathom growing up without their father, especially when he was taken in such a violent way. Communities back then were so tightly knit, I can only hope that they rallied around Mrs. Hamby and the kids. How do you all think tragedies like this affected small towns in that era, particularly for families left to pick up the pieces? The idea of those young ones growing up with only stories of their dad's bravery breaks my heart. Let's remember those who keep us safe every day and pay the ultimate price for it.
