Hey everyone, I've been following the Samuel Henry Bailey case, and something that's really been sticking with me is the impact this must have had on his colleagues at the Harlan County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Bailey wasn’t just one of their own in the uniform, he was family to them. Imagine going to work every day knowing your workplace has just lost a person who's probably been through all the highs and lows alongside you. The early 1900s weren't exactly forgiving times for law enforcement, and yet Deputy Bailey's colleagues still had to show up and continue their duties. It must have been an emotionally taxing time for the entire office, balancing their grief for a friend and co-worker with their professional responsibilities. Losing anyone in the line of duty leaves a profound effect, but when it's under such tragic personal circumstances, the layers of grief can be overwhelming. My heart goes out to the force that had to rally together after this unimaginable loss.
