Been following Derrick Baker's case and had a thought that's been nagging at me. Given the reports mention Derrick was found holding a gun, it really makes me wonder about the potential pressure young people face in neighborhoods like Roseland. It’s tragic to think about what might drive an 18-year-old to feel the need to carry a weapon. Was it for protection, peer pressure, or something else entirely? The fact that we see this pattern repeatedly in communities with high gang activity and socioeconomic struggles is incredibly concerning. It feels like there's a bigger conversation needed about creating environments where young folks don't feel they're left with such limited, dangerous choices. My heart goes out to Derrick's family and everyone who knew him; no family should have to endure such grief. Would love to hear others’ thoughts on how we can support positive changes in these communities.
