Hey everyone, I'm new here but I've been reading up on Millard "Sonny" Ray West's life and legacy, and it still gets to me how someone so dedicated to public service doesn't get more attention. I mean, he broke some serious barriers as the first African American state trooper in Kentucky. That's huge! Not to mention his service in the Air Force. While there aren't any details suggesting foul play in his passing, I can't help but wonder if there might be more to the story that we're missing.
It's a little concerning how quickly some stories fade away without us really understanding all the details. Not that I'm implying anything sinister happened, but imagine having such a vibrant life and being remembered in obituaries that focus more on his achievements than what might have led to his passing. Makes you want to dig a bit deeper, out of respect for his legacy and his family, you know? Anyone else feel like there might be more we could learn or should we just let it rest in peace, celebrating his contributions instead?
Did anyone else find it odd that there’s so little information about Sonny West’s passing? I just came across his obituary, and while it beautifully honors his life and contributions, it seems unusual for someone with such a notable background. Being Kentucky’s first African American state trooper is significant, and it feels like we should know more about his final days.
I know it’s important to respect the privacy of his loved ones, but I'm curious if anyone local to Lexington or familiar with the community has heard anything more. Maybe there are details the family chose to keep private, which is entirely their right, of course. It would just be nice to know more about the man and his last chapter, given he broke so many barriers and served his community with dedication.
Sending thoughts to his family and friends who must be incredibly proud of the legacy he left behind.
