Hey everyone, I've been thinking about Nathaniel Jackson's tragic death and how it reflects on the city as a whole. It's so upsetting that his life—and the lives of so many others—have been overshadowed by statistics. It seems like the focus is so much on numbers that we sometimes forget there's a person, a family, and a story behind each one.
Nathaniel was standing outside a convenience store, something a lot of us do without a second thought. It’s so hard to wrap my mind around how quickly things can change, and how gun violence just tears through lives without warning. The fact that his murder set this grim milestone for Chicago is even more heart-wrenching. It just shows the urgency for change and real solutions.
I'm thinking about his family and friends who are undoubtedly experiencing a profound loss right now. I can't imagine the pain they're going through knowing Nathaniel’s name will forever be linked to a statistic representing something so major and deeply unsettling for the city.
I really hope that, if nothing else, this tragic event brings more attention to the issues many neighborhoods face and spurs more impactful actions to prevent future crimes like this.
