I came across some information about the suspects that were eventually arrested after the tragic shooting of Patrolman Charles Mayer. It seems they were caught in Kansas, which made me think about how vast interstate travel seemed back in the early 1900s. In today's age, it's easy to jump into a car and cross state lines, but back then it must have been quite an ordeal. The fact that these suspects managed to evade capture for some time suggests they may have had a fair amount of cunning or support. It's so frustrating knowing that, despite their initial arrest, they were let go due to insufficient evidence and an uncooperative witness. This must have been incredibly painful for Mayer’s family, having to know that the people responsible for his murder were walking free. It's devastating to think how the justice system can sometimes fall short, especially in such grave circumstances. Would love to hear any thoughts or additional info fellow members might have stumbled upon regarding the investigation or the suspects' later lives.
