I still can't wrap my mind around the senseless tragedy that happened at Rocori High School. My heart goes out to Seth Bartell's family and all the students who had to endure such a nightmare. There’s so much that can be questioned about the chain of events that day, but one thing that's been lingering in my thoughts is the role of bullying in this whole situation. As heartbreaking and tragic as it is, it’s a stark reminder of how important it is for schools to take bullying seriously. Seth and Aaron Rollins should have been safe in their school environment, not targets. I hope that educators and administrations everywhere use this case as a catalyst to be more proactive. We should all push for an environment where everyone feels secure and respected, so hopefully, tragedies like this can be prevented in the future. My condolences to both of their families and everyone affected by this horrific event.
Has anyone else been following the details about the intervention by gym coach Mark Johnson during the Rocori High School shooting? I keep thinking about how he had the courage to step into such a dangerous situation, potentially saving more lives by disarming the shooter and leading him away to the school office. In moments like these, we often focus on the tragedy itself and sometimes overlook the acts of bravery that happen in the chaos. I can't even imagine what Coach Johnson and everyone else who was there must be dealing with emotionally. My heart goes out to Seth Bartell, Aaron Rollins, and their families, but I also respect the strength shown by those who risked their own safety that day. Anyone know if Mark Johnson has spoken publicly about the incident since then? Would be interesting to hear more about his perspective on that day.
