Has anyone else been following the deeply unsettling case of Victoria Alvarez and her mother, Eugenia? I can’t seem to wrap my head around how someone like Gonzalo Galvan, who had a known history of abuse, didn't have a single criminal record before this tragedy occurred. How do we, as a society, miss the signs or lack the systems in place to protect victims like Victoria and Eugenia before it's too late? From what I've read, Galvan managed to slip through the cracks despite his abusive behavior, and this ended in such a horrific outcome. It’s just gut-wrenching to think about the fear and uncertainty they must have felt while planning to leave. It truly makes me wonder how many more families are out there in similar situations, unseen and unheard. And what really hits home is the impact on their remaining family and loved ones. Victoria was so young, a sophomore in high school with her whole life ahead of her. My heart goes out to her siblings, who now have to process unimaginable grief and loss. I hope they find the support and justice they need as they move forward. What are everyone’s thoughts on how we can better prevent such tragedies in the future? Is anyone aware of reform efforts in place that could have potentially intervened before this nightmare unfolded?
