I’ve been thinking about how brave Makayla Saulter-Outlaw was during the shooting. It’s absolutely chilling to think that at only 12 years old, she had the incredible courage to protect her baby niece like that. I can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been to be caught in such a horrifying situation, simply while trying to help her family move. Her instinct to shield the child is nothing short of heroic. It’s such a tragic and senseless act of violence that affected so many lives that day. My heart goes out to Makayla, Canisha, their family, and everyone else affected by this tragedy. It’s so hard to understand how something like this can happen—sending lots of love and strength to everyone involved.
