I’ve been following different cases in Lawndale, and the shooting of Ernest J. Carter on July 14, 2013, just resonates so deeply. It’s incredibly frustrating and sad to see how another life was cut short in such a violent manner. The randomness and brutality of these attacks are terrifying. My heart really goes out to Carter’s loved ones, and to the woman who survived but must be going through unimaginable trauma. It makes you think about how vulnerable everyone is and about the ongoing struggle for safety that many in Chicago face day-to-day. Does anyone have any insight on what more can be done to support communities like Lawndale in their fight against this violence? I feel like there has to be a better way to protect lives and prevent these tragedies.
