I’ve been following the stories of gun violence in Chicago for years, and the case of Cauirece Graham really hits close to home. It’s just so difficult to hear about another young life lost in such a tragic manner. It seems like every summer, the violence just spikes, and we lose more precious souls to senseless acts. What really gets me is the number of homicides that year. Over 400 people. It’s hard to wrap your mind around those numbers. Each one of those numbers is a person loved by family and friends. It makes you wonder how the families cope with such unexpected loss and the never-ending cycle of violence in these communities. Does anyone know if there’s been any progress in community programs aiming to address the underlying issues? I feel like there needs to be more focus on jobs, education, and support for those living in these struggling neighborhoods. Increased police presence can only do so much without tackling the root causes. My heart goes out to Graham’s family and all those affected by this ongoing issue. We need to keep talking about this and push for real change.
