Has anyone dug into the tactics law enforcement used back in 1899, especially in rural areas like Doniphan, Kansas? I’m wondering how a posse operated in such a case. It seems like a daunting task to attempt to catch a suspect on the run, especially without the advanced technologies we rely on today. The fact that the suspect got away despite a significant effort makes me think about the limitations they were working with. Officer Dickerson's death is such a loss, and it sounds like the odds were really stacked against them. I feel for his family and fellow officers who didn't have the means to close this tragic case quickly. Does anyone have insights on what standard procedures might have been for something like this back then?
