It's just so tragic to think about the risks that law enforcement officers like John J. Breene face every day, even in their own homes. I was struck by the fact that he managed to keep fighting after being wounded, trying to protect his community right till the end. It's clear he was dedicated to his duty. I wonder how his family coped with the loss, not only of a husband and father but of someone who clearly had a profound impact on his community. Losing someone in such a violent way must have left a deep scar. His service in the U.S. Army and dedication as a constable speak volumes about his character. My heart goes out to his wife and kids—living on with that void must have been incredibly difficult. It's stories like these that remind us of the constant sacrifices made by those in law enforcement, and the strength it takes for their families to move forward.
