I've been following Derrick Rawls' case since it happened, and something that keeps bothering me is the location of the shooting. He was killed near a public school and a church—places that are supposed to feel safe for the community. It's a stark reminder of how gun violence can feel so intrusive, hitting us where we least expect.
I can't imagine how terrifying it must be for students and congregation members who frequent the area. Aside from the immense grief Derrick's family is experiencing, the whole neighborhood has to grapple with this new sense of vulnerability. It's truly unsettling and I feel for the community trying to process this.
If anyone in the area has any slight piece of information, even if it seems insignificant, it could really make a difference. There's a reward, and more importantly, it could help bring some closure and justice for Derrick's loved ones. Let's keep his family in our thoughts and hope the police can uncover more leads soon.

For kids and families in the neighborhood, these places are supposed to be safe havens, places where you feel secure and protected.
